Winch Out and Recovery in Pueblo, CO

Slid into a ditch on an icy morning, buried in a snowbank, or sunk to the axles in soft ground after a rain? A winch out uses a tow truck's winch cable to pull your vehicle back onto firm ground under control, instead of tearing it up with guesswork.

Tell us where the vehicle sits and whether it can roll. That sets up the right pull.

Stuck situations we pull out of

How a winch out works

  1. You describe the situation on the phone: where the vehicle is, how it got there, how deep it sits, and whether the wheels can roll and steer. Photos by text help if it is safe to take them.
  2. The truck positions on solid ground and runs the winch cable to a proper pull point on your vehicle, not a bumper cover or a part that will tear off.
  3. The pull is slow and controlled. The driver may reposition, change the angle, or use snatch blocks to multiply pulling power on a steep or deep stuck.
  4. Once you are on firm ground, the driver checks the car with you. If something broke in the slide, a bent tie rod, a torn tire, fluid leaking, the same truck can tow it instead of sending you off in a damaged car.

Before you dig yourself deeper

  • Spinning the tires usually makes it worse. It digs the car deeper and can overheat the transmission.
  • Do not let a friend yank the car with a chain and a pickup unless you both know proper recovery points. A chain hooked to the wrong part can tear parts off or snap dangerously.
  • Turn off traction control tricks aside, if the car is rocking deeper with each try, stop and call.
  • If the car slid off a road and anyone was hurt, or the car is in a lane, call 911 first.

Winch outs around Pueblo

Pueblo winters are sneaky rather than deep mountain snow: a two inch snowfall on a cold road, a freeze after a sunny day melts the surface, and suddenly the Belmont hills and the South Side slopes are skating rinks. Spring brings the mud calls from the mesa edges and the river bottoms, and summer thunderstorms can flood low crossings and soften shoulders fast. Work trucks and hunters get stuck out toward the prairie and Lake Pueblo all year. Wherever it is in the Pueblo area, if a truck can reach solid ground near your vehicle, a winch can usually get you out.

What a winch out costs

Winch work is priced by the situation: how deep, how far off the road, and how much cable time the pull takes. You get the price on the phone before the truck rolls, based on your description, and if the scene turns out very different from the description the driver will talk to you before doing extra work. See the cost guide for how winch time factors into a bill.
